I spent this past weekend in Stockholm with my family where we visited Snickarbacken 7 in Ostermalm. Coffee is a huge phenomenon in Sweden, so much that they even have a word for ‘doing coffee’ – Fika. It was very cosy, and had a very east London hipster vibe about it with artworks on the walls and low lighting. I’ve never been a huge fan of coffee, but here I found my drink, the cortado.  For that, I will be forever greatful to you Snickarbacken 7.

72 HOURS IN STOCKHOLM

Stockholm in 72 hours – not exactly an easy task. Survival kit must include snacks and comfortable shoes – and lots of stops for coffee and pastries, obviously.

Guide to Stockholm

Eat:

Riche, Operabaren, Snickarbacken 7, T-Bar

No trip to Stockholm would be complete without some Swedish meatballs – I got my fix at the Operabaren, set in an atmospheric bar with stained glass ceiling. Riche is a really cool spot for dinner – it’s got fun interiors and their next door LillaBaren has some amazing baroque plasterwork and is a really buzzing place to get a drink.

Go:

Skansen park (more on this at a later date) is a great introduction to Swedish culture – it recreates old Sweden and houses bears and elk, as well as red squirrels, one of which scampered up my sisters leg in a moment of pure hilarity. Gamla Stan, Stockholm’s old town, has beautifully coloured buildings and lots of coffee shops. Södermalm is another cool area which needs much more exploring on my part, but is home to lots of hip restaurants and shops.

Wear:

Anything warm as above, i.e. coats from &OtherStories and Cos, Scarves from Moss Copenhagen and jumper from Cos.
